Decide the format before you book the set.

A ministry podcast fails when the first booking is a camera and the format is still a feeling. Choose the conversation, then record it somewhere the voice is clean.

A host and guest filming a ministry podcast on the SN7 studio set.

Churches and artists announce a podcast and then book a room. The room is the easy part. The format is the work: who speaks, how long, whether a guest is surprised or prepared, and what the listener is supposed to do when it ends. SN7 can give you a clean voice and a set that looks considered. It cannot invent a reason for episode six.

A format that can be repeated

Pick a length you can edit. Thirty to forty-five minutes of honest conversation is plenty. Ninety minutes of unshaped talk becomes a file nobody finishes. Pick the roles. A host who can ask a short question. A guest who knows why they are there. A third voice only if that voice has a job. Larger panels feel lively in the room and tangled in the edit.

Write five questions, not a script of the answers. Send them to the guest. Surprise is overrated in ministry media. Clarity is not. Decide the language. If the episode moves between English and isiZulu, the editor needs to know that titles, clips, and the intro will too.

Audio first, picture second

Capture the voices as a proper session. A camera microphone in a lively room is how a teaching series becomes tiring. The SN7 set is for episodes that will be watched: lights, seats, and a recording path that does not depend on the room tone. If season one is audio only, book the audio and skip the set. You can add picture when you have a cover, a name, and a rhythm of publishing. The podcast service can be scoped either way.

Publish a clean episode. Do not publish a test and call it episode one.

What to book for a first day

  • A technical setup block, then two episodes rather than one endless take, if the guests are confirmed.
  • An intro that is actually written, even if it is twenty seconds.
  • A decision about music. Often the right amount is none under the talk.
  • A note on who approves the cut, so the edit is not waiting on a committee.

Clips for social feeds are a separate list of outputs. They can be booked. They should not be assumed. A forty-minute episode and eight cut-downs are two jobs. Say if you need both, and listen to the full episode yourself before you ask the editor to find the “anointed bit”. You will know which minute it was. The microphone will have caught it, provided the format was calm enough to let it happen.

Questions this guide usually raises

Do we need video for the first episode?

Only if people will watch it. A teaching show can start as audio. Add the set when the format has survived three episodes and you know what the frame should contain.

Can you write the episodes?

No. We record and, when it is booked, edit. The message, the name, and the questions stay with you.
